There are many non-surgical options for achieving softer and smoother facial contours. Fillers are injectables commonly composed of modified formulations of hyaluronic acid (HA), a non-reactive hydrating material used to treat everything from superficial facial creases, to deeper facial volume loss. Another method for achieving improved facial volume and contour requires fillers that aid in stimulating collagen formation.
JUVEDERM ULTRA XC & JUVEDERM ULTRA PLUS XC
For the common signs of aging, such as facial lines and wrinkles, Juvéderm Ultra and Juvéderm Ultra Plus are two of our most popular treatments. These HA fillers are designed to smooth and soften moderate to severe facial wrinkles in areas like the nasolabial folds and perioral region, or the appearance of “parentheses” around the mouth. They can also be used to achieve fuller lips and improve contours at the lower eyelid-cheek junction. Juvéderm Ultra and Juvéderm Ultra Plus may last up to one year with optimal treatment.
Juvaderm VOLUMA XC
As the body ages, the skin can start to show loss of volume or a hollowing out in areas such as the cheek. JUVÉDERM VOLUMA XC is the first FDA-approved injectable HA gel to instantly add volume to your cheek area to correct age-related volume loss. It provides contour and a subtle lift for up to two years with optimal treatment.*
How do Juvederm Ultra XC, Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, and Juvederm Voluma ™ XC Work?
Dr. Mirabile, Dr. Hsu and our Nurse Injectors inject these fillers under the skin with a small needle. They work instantly to soften wrinkles and subtly lift the cheek area, temporarily reversing these signs of aging. To reduce discomfort during the procedure, these fillers contain a numbing agent called lidocaine. For best results, we recommend not participating in vigorous physical activity for 24 hours after treatment and to use ice to decrease bruising and swelling in the treated areas.
The newest HA filler, Volbella is formulated specifically for lip augmentation and for treating fine lines and vertical wrinkles around the lips. With properties similar to Voluma, but modified for lips and the facial skin around the lips, Volbella provides natural-appearing fuller lips and smoother skin around the lips for up to one year with optimal treatment.
For patients who are concerned with the vertical lines around their lips or fine facial wrinkles, Belotero, like Volbella, is designed specifically for injection within the skin for direct treatment. This HA formulation is optimal for integrating within finer lines in areas of delicate and thinner skin. Belotero may last up to six months, which may be ideal for patients who are new to fillers.
Sculptra is an injectable made of poly-L-lactic acid, a material that is meant to stimulate collagen formation. Collagen is a major component of skin structure and elasticity. Sculptra is injected within the deepest layer of the skin to form a scaffolding for collagen growth. Common treatment areas include the nasolabial fold and lower cheek . Most patients will see improvement within 4-6 weeks, with some requiring more than one treatment separated by 4-6 weeks; improvement can last for up to two years.*
Lips tend to lose volume and become thinner as the body ages. With lip enhancement, they can be revitalized to become full and youthful in appearance. Lip enhancement procedures are used to create larger, fuller upper and lower lips using injected material, often called “fillers” such as Juvéderm Ultra XC, Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC, and Volbella. Lip enlargement can be done with implantable materials such as Gortex or the patient’s own fat. Dr. Mirabile's and Dr. Hsu’s nurse injectors are able to create full, beautiful lips on anyone who desires this treatment.
How is this procedure done?
Fillers are injected into the lips with fine needles so there are no markings or scars. However, after treatment, it is possible that the patient will have a little bruising or swelling. Procedures using fillers take about thirty minutes. Filler injections are not permanent, but they can be repeated once or twice a year so that you may keep your beautiful, full lips.
Lip enhancement utilizing an implantable material or your own fat cells requires a surgical procedure. Often, this procedure can be done under local anesthesia. Most patients are pleased with the outcome of lip enhancement.
