Ready for Summer? Your Guide to Smooth, Hair-Free Skin

Ready for Summer? Your Guide to Smooth, Hair-Free Skin

Summer means sundresses, swimsuits, more time in the sun, and less time worrying about unwanted hair. If shaving feels never-ending, professional hair removal treatments can help you enjoy smooth skin with far less effort.

And even though it’s February, now is the perfect time to get ready for summer.

At Best Impression Med Spa, you have several options for removing unwanted body hair, including waxing, laser hair removal, and electrolysis. Dr. Mirabile, Dr. Hsu, and the Best Impression Med Spa team in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, can help you determine which option is right for you based on your skin and hair types and your long-term goals.

In the meantime, here’s your guide to smooth, hair-free skin.

Step 1: Explore all of your options

When it comes to hair removal, you have options! Before choosing one, make sure you review them all.

Waxing

Waxing removes hair from the root and leaves skin smooth for weeks, rather than days (like shaving). It’s a great option if you want immediate results for areas like the legs, underarms, bikini line, or face.

Because hair grows back finer over time, many people find that waxing becomes more comfortable and longer-lasting with regular treatments.

Best for: fast results, special events, and maintaining smooth skin throughout the summer.

Laser hair removal

Laser hair removal uses focused light energy to target and damage the hair follicle while leaving the surrounding skin unharmed. This process slows future hair growth, which leads to finer, lighter regrowth over time.

After a series of treatments, many people see significantly less hair, and what does grow back is often finer and lighter. In a 2025 study, hair reduction across all treated body areas averaged about 75% at six months.

Laser treatments work best when performed consistently. That’s because they need to target your hair during its growing phase.

They’re ideal for areas such as the legs, arms, underarms, bikini area, and face. Laser treatments can also help reduce ingrown hairs, which are more common with waxing and shaving.

Best for: reducing hair long-term and cutting down on daily or weekly maintenance.

Electrolysis

Electrolysis is the only FDA-recognized method of truly permanent hair removal.  At Best Impression Med Spa, we use the Blend Method, which combines gentle heat and a controlled electrical current to permanently disable each hair follicle.

To enhance your comfort, we use a computer-controlled stream of cooling air to help calm and desensitize your skin throughout treatment.

This treatment is effective for all hair colors and skin types, including white, blonde, red, and gray hair, which makes it the only permanent option when laser hair removal isn’t suitable.

Electrolysis is also ideal for refining results after laser treatments, removing remaining lighter hairs for a smooth, flawless finish.

Best for: permanent hair removal, facial areas, lighter hair colors, and precision touch-ups after laser treatments.

Step 2: Time your treatments with your schedule

Not all hair removal methods work on the same timeline, so planning ahead matters, especially if you have a vacation, wedding, or beach weekend coming up.

Waxing delivers immediate smoothness, so it’s ideal if you want results right away.

Laser hair removal works best when started weeks to months in advance, since it requires a series of treatments for long-term reduction.

Electrolysis is a gradual process, and it's best to start early if permanent results are your goal.

If you have an event in two weeks, waxing may be the best short-term option. If you’re thinking of long-term smooth skin by next summer, laser or electrolysis may be worth starting now.

Step 3: prep your skin the right way

Proper prep helps your treatment work better and keeps your skin comfortable.

Your prep depends on the method you choose:

Waxing

Don’t shave beforehand. Your hair needs to be long enough for the wax to grip effectively.

Laser hair removal

Shave the treatment area 24–48 hours before your appointment so the laser can target the hair follicle beneath the skin.

Electrolysis

Hair should be visible so each follicle can be treated individually. Avoid shaving right before your session.

In all cases, arrive with clean skin and avoid sun exposure, tanning, or harsh exfoliation before your appointment.

Not sure which option is right for you?

You don’t have to decide on your own. At Best Impression Med Spa, hair removal treatments are customized to you and designed to help you feel confident in your skin all season long.

During your consultation, Dr. Mirabile or Dr. Hsu evaluate your skin, hair, and goals to recommend the best treatment (or combination of treatments) for you.
