Banish Dead Skin Cells with Microdermabrasion

Banish Dead Skin Cells with Microdermabrasion

Exfoliation can provide more skin transformation than many initially think possible. It is defined as any process that removes superficial dead skin cells on the very top layer of skin before they lift off naturally.

The outermost layer of the epidermis is called the stratum corneum, which is the part of the skin to which we apply our skincare and treatments. The stratum corneum is constantly being regenerated with new cells while old ones are discarded in a process called cell turnover.

As we get older, our cell turnover slows down, which can contribute to signs of aging. Exfoliation techniques allow us to speed up cell turnover, boosting collagen and promoting a more youthful appearance in the process.

At home vs. professional exfoliation

Though there are many at-home exfoliation options you may be tempted to try, we highly encourage you to see a professional first. Here’s why:

If you aren’t experienced with exfoliation or haven’t yet been directly educated and instructed by a skincare professional like ours here at Best Impression Med Spa, you can potentially do much more harm than good to your skin by going too far too quickly.

Both chemical and mechanical forms of exfoliation can compromise the skin barrier if applied at too high of a concentration or pressure. Personalized advice and treatment from a skin expert ensures that you will get the best results without compromising your skin’s long-term health.

If you aren’t sure where to start, one of our favorite exfoliating treatments for nearly all skin types is microdermabrasion.

Why microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is one of Best Impression Med Spa's most popular and well-tolerated exfoliating treatments. We use a proprietary device with a diamond-encrusted tip and light suction to buff and lift off dead skin cells, promoting skin cell turnover in the process.

Microdermabrasion is a form of gentle and customizable mechanical or physical exfoliation. It doesn’t use any chemical exfoliants, making it ideal for those concerned about ingredient contraindications.

This treatment allows us to tailor how much pressure we’re applying on each area of your skin during your treatment so that you get a completely personalized exfoliating experience.

Some additional benefits our patients enjoy from microdermabrasion include:

How to prepare and what to expect

If you’re curious about microdermabrasion or any other exfoliating facial treatment, you’re first going to want to schedule a consultation with a professional. If you’re in the Blue Bell, Pennsylvania area, we’d love to hear from you, so we can plan how to best help you achieve your skin goals.

During your consultation, your practitioner will provide instructions on how to prepare for your treatment. Although this advice can vary person to person, we generally advise that you avoid excessive sun exposure and other exfoliating methods for at least a week prior to treatment.

The procedure itself is painless and relatively quick, typically only taking 30-45 minutes to complete. On average, we recommend returning for microdermabrasion treatments every month or two to maximize long-term results.

You may experience slight sensitivity for a few days after the treatment. During this time, it’s extra important to use SPF every day (opt for a mineral option if you’re extra sensitive), and cleanse and moisturize daily with gentle, irritant-free skincare products.

Here at Best Impression Med Spa, it’s our mission to provide you with the care you need to feel your best. If this blog has piqued your interest, be sure to contact us soon for a consultation!
