What is the Fraxel laser system?

The Fraxel laser system uses concentrated light to create thousands of micro-injuries in the deeper layers of your skin. The process converts light to heat and penetrates your skin in tiny, channel-like patterns. Along each of those channels, a degree of thermal damage occurs.

That prompts your natural healing response, which kicks in to replace the damaged cells with a layer of fresh, new cells. The outermost layers of skin will flake and peel off in the days following your treatment.

What can Fraxel sessions treat?

One of the things that makes Fraxel so appealing is the ability to treat multiple issues at once. Some of the skin conditions Fraxel can improve include:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Acne and other types of scarring
  • Sun damage
  • Actinic keratosis
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • General dull or uneven tone or texture

The process is sometimes called skin resurfacing, as it causes your body to remodel your skin from the inside out.

What should I do to prepare for my Fraxel session?

It’s important that you don’t arrive for a Fraxel treatment at Best Impression Med Spa with any open wounds or active infections in the treatment area. This includes acne breakouts. If you notice any breaks in your skin, call to ask if rescheduling is necessary.

You’ll also need to cease using products that contain retinoids for a week prior to your appointment. This ensures your skin won’t have a negative reaction during or after treatment.

What should I expect after Fraxel treatments?

You should plan for 3-5 days of downtime after your Fraxel treatment. Redness, swelling, and peeling are to be expected as your skin responds to laser therapy.

Avoid using harsh products on your skin as it heals. Be sure to use a high-quality sunscreen to protect your skin from UV damage. It’s fine to use a gentle facial cleanser and moisturizer. Don’t be tempted to pick or pull at the skin as it peels or flakes. That’s all part of the process, and the end results will be well worth it!
